From booking your designer and gathering inspiration to approving proofs and mailing the finished suite, planning ahead allows time for meaningful design decisions, specialty production, and careful assembly.
Planning Ahead
When Should You Begin?
Every project follows a slightly different schedule depending on the level of customization, printing method, quantity, and finishing details. The timeline below offers a helpful framework for planning your wedding stationery from the earliest stages through mailing.
10–12+ Months Before
Begin Exploring & Book Your Designer
Start gathering inspiration, reviewing portfolios, and considering whether a custom or semi-custom experience is the best fit. Booking early is especially important when your suite will include original artwork, specialty printing, handmade paper, or detailed embellishments.
8–10 Months Before
Define the Vision
Finalize the overall direction for your suite, including the color palette, level of formality, printing method, paper, artwork, and number of pieces. This stage establishes the creative foundation for everything that follows.
6–8 Months Before
Design & Proofing
Your invitation design begins to take shape through initial concepts and digital proofs. Wording, typography, layout, artwork, and finishing details are refined through the revision process before the suite is approved for production.
4–6 Months Before
Finalize Guest Details
Confirm your guest list, household groupings, honorifics, addresses, return address, and RSVP method. Accurate information at this stage helps prevent delays once addressing and production begin.
3–4 Months Before
Printing, Production & Assembly
Once the final proof is approved, the suite moves into production. Printing, specialty processes, envelope liners, embellishments, addressing, and assembly all require time, particularly when multiple vendors or handcrafted details are involved.
8-12 Weeks Before the Wedding
Mail Your Invitations
Invitations are generally mailed eight to twelve weeks before the wedding. Destination celebrations, international guests, or events requiring extensive travel may call for a longer mailing window.
4-6 Weeks Before the Wedding
Set the RSVP Deadline
Your response deadline should leave enough time to follow up with guests, finalize the seating plan, confirm meal selections, and order personalized day-of stationery without creating unnecessary stress.
